Energy Storage

Energy Storage and Batteries:

AquaCarb Global LLC’s activated carbon is widely used in energy storage systems and batteries, playing a critical role in enhancing their performance, efficiency, and overall functionality.

EDLC (Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitor)

EDLC, also known as supercapacitors, is primarily used for energy storage rather than as a component in an electric circuit. It finds applications in energy smoothing and momentary-load devices, including KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) devices used in vehicles and other applications where fast charging is required.

Applications

  • Supercapacitors
  • lithium-ion batteries
  • fuel cells
  • energy storage technologies.

Super Capacitor

Activated carbon serves as an essential adsorbent in the construction of supercapacitors. The electrode of a supercapacitor is made from high-porosity activated carbon, which possesses a large surface area of up to 2000 square meters per gram. This unique porous structure allows for an enormous surface area-to-volume ratio, enabling the supercapacitor to achieve outstanding capacitance

How Super capacitors Work

Supercapacitors consist of two non-reactive porous plates and an electrolyte, with an applied voltage across the plates. The positive plate attracts negative ions in the electrolyte, while the negative plate attracts positive ions in the electrolyte. This charge separation occurs on two layers of capacitive storage—one at the positive plate and another at the negative plate.

Advantages of Super Capacitor

      • Long lifespan (up to 10 years) compared to conventional capacitors
      • High storage capacity (typically in the range of 1000 Farads) compared to conventional capacitors (typically in the range of 100 micro Farads)
      • Resilient against temperature changes, shock, overcharging, and discharging inefficiency.
      • Requires minimal maintenanc.
      • Capable of multiple charge and discharge cycles
      • Environmentally friendly when disposed of properly.

Activated carbon plays a significant role in the performance of supercapacitors by providing a highly porous structure that maximizes the electrode’s surface area. This large surface area allows for efficient charge separation and storage, resulting in superior capacitance and energy storage capabilities.

AquaCarb Global LLC’s activated carbon is a reliable and effective choice for energy storage and battery applications, contributing to the advancement of energy storage technologies and enabling efficient and sustainable energy solutions.

Significance of Activated Carbon in Super Capacitor

  • In super capacitor the electrode is made from high porous activated carbon.
  • The porous structure of this material gives high surface area up to 2000 meter square/g.
  • The combination of enormous surface area and extremely small charge separation gives the super capacitor an outstanding capacitance
